The Saarinen Tulip Table is one of the most famous pieces in our Saarinen furniture collection. Created in 1957, this beautiful Saarinen table envelopes the thought and theory behind one of the 20th century's great architects. Constructed of cast aluminum, the table flows from top to bottom and from side to side in a fluid exchange of lines. Saarinen used a variety of bases and tops for various interiors during his career. The Saarinen table shown here is a favorite as it can be used in a variety of spaces, but is most commonly used as a dining table.
Eero Saarinen was part of the second generation of the Modern Movement of design. He and his colleagues followed in the footsteps of such legendary masters like Le Corbusier, Marcel Breuer, and Mies van der Rohe. He and other members of Cranbrook expanded the vocabulary of modern design. Saarinen’s use of aerodynamic shapes, new materials, and applying a comprehensive design philosophy to buildings would impact the second half of the 20th-century design in far-reaching ways.
